Watergate Hotel

Location:

Washington, D.C.

Intent:

The Watergate Hotel was constructed in 1966 as part of the Watergate Complex which later gained international fame following the 1970s political scandal that resulted in the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. Beginning in 2010, EHT Traceries provided the owner with comprehensive consulting services that led to the approval of the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Certification Application for the building. The owner’s intended to bring the hotel back to its historic luxurious state and to remain a fixture on the District of Columbia social scene. Traceries also coordinated consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service to ensure consistency of the plans and specifications with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Additional consulting services have included guidance through the local review process including the D.C. Historic Preservation Office and the Commission of Fine Arts. The hotel opened in 2016 and the project received its HPCA Part 3 certification in 2018.
